Blizzard rules out modern races for World of Warcraft: Forever

Blizzard has said it will not bring modern World of Warcraft races such as Goblins, Vulpera, or Haranir into World of Warcraft: Forever. The team wants the game to grow from the original Warcraft lore, especially the real-time strategy titles, and its story follows the Warcraft 3: Forsaken Kingdom campaign. Blizzard also said players begin as a hero rather than the central hero, so the stakes start lower than in retail WoW.
Blizzard told TechRadar Gaming that World of Warcraft: Forever will not import races introduced in retail expansions, so Vulpera, Goblins, and Haranir are not planned. The title sits in a separate continuity, letting its developers prioritize the older Warcraft strategy titles and a story beginning after Warcraft 3: Forsaken Kingdom.
The team also described a smaller-scale role for players: they enter as one hero among many rather than the central figure. That choice is intended to keep early stakes below those of modern WoW, while still allowing involvement in broader events in subtler ways.
This decision may affect longtime WoW players and lore-focused fans, especially those hoping for newer races in this separate-continuity project. By limiting modern additions, Blizzard could strengthen a distinct identity for Forever, potentially attracting players who prefer grounded, older Warcraft storytelling. It may also disappoint some who value retail's broader roster, shaping community expectations and play preferences.
