Tubi Sets R.L. Stine's 'The Babysitter' for 2027 Live-Action Adaptation

Tubi will release a live-action adaptation of R.L. Stine's The Babysitter in 2027. The plot centers on 16-year-old Jenny, who takes a babysitting job to pay for a prestigious writing program while a prowler frightens girls in town and she begins receiving threatening calls. It is the fourth movie in Tubi's partnership with Stine and the first not drawn from his Nightmare Hour or Haunting Hour anthologies.
Tubi plans a 2027 live-action take on R.L. Stine’s The Babysitter, the fourth title from its collaboration with the author. Unlike earlier entries drawn from Nightmare Hour or Haunting Hour, this project adapts a full novel series that began in 1989. The story follows Jenny, a 16-year-old who babysits to fund a writing program while a prowler and threatening calls escalate her fear.
Trevor Calverley directs; Jem Garrard writes and executive produces. Blue Ice produces, with Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha, Jane Stine and Garrard among executive producers, and Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron and Adam Friedlander producing. The announcement followed Pumpkinhead 2’s Oct. 9 release and preceded Tubi’s New York Comic Con panel.
The adaptation may draw younger viewers and longtime Stine readers to Tubi, potentially renewing interest in 1990s teen horror. It could also introduce The Babysitter series to audiences unfamiliar with the books, while giving parents and educators another pop-culture touchpoint for discussing scary fiction. Its success may encourage more streaming adaptations of vintage YA horror, though reception will depend on execution and age-appropriate marketing.
