Houthi attack again targets Riyadh airport after deadly weekend strike

Saudi authorities said a new Houthi strike hit King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, killing a Pakistani resident and injuring 11 people. It followed a Saturday attack that killed at least 12 people and suspended airport operations. The Iran-backed Houthis threatened more attacks on Saudi transit hubs.
Sunday’s projectile at King Khalid International Airport started a fire and damaged property, while air defenses downed a missile close by, the Saudi-led coalition said. The airport stayed shut for another day, with reopening expected late Monday, according to Flightradar24. Dammam airport in the east was also hit, and a drone was later shot down there.
The strikes represent a major escalation in Yemen’s war, where Riyadh supports Yemen’s government, recognized abroad, against the Houthis. Saturday’s assault was called the worst on Saudi territory in over ten years. The Houthis have also targeted Saudi oil facilities and Red Sea tankers, and three people died at Riyadh airport on Thursday.
The renewed strikes could deepen fear among residents and travelers in Riyadh and eastern Saudi Arabia, disrupt flights, business travel, and airport operations. Families of victims may face grief and medical costs. If attacks on transit and energy sites continue, they may unsettle markets, raise security concerns, and complicate regional travel. Yemeni civilians could also face further hardship if fighting escalates.
