Kelly Clarkson and Brooklyn store clash over shopping visit

Kelly Clarkson disputed a Brooklyn shop's version of her weekend visit, after she compared the experience to the boutique scene in Pretty Woman. Art of Play said the mechanical bird she asked about, Molly, is part of its performances and not for sale. Clarkson responded by calling the person involved dishonest.
Kelly Clarkson, 44, first described the Brooklyn outing on X, saying she had gone to Art of Play on purpose and left feeling judged. She likened the encounter to Pretty Woman and later called the person involved an idiot who lost a major sale.
Art of Play, near Brooklyn Bridge Park, sells puzzles, games, toys and unusual home objects and also houses a 26-seat close-up magic theatre. The shop said Molly, a singing and dancing mechanical bird, is wall-mounted and part of performances, not merchandise. Clarkson countered that she saw a $15,000 price tag and shared a grainy photo.
This dispute may shape how some consumers view Art of Play and Kelly Clarkson, as fans weigh her account against the shop’s explanation. Small businesses could face intensified online scrutiny when celebrity visits go wrong, while public figures may be reminded that social posts can quickly escalate local incidents into broader debates about courtesy, customer service, and who gets believed.
