Saylor Signals Possible Further Bitcoin Buying After Strategy’s Preferred Share Repurchases
Michael Saylor suggested Strategy could add more Bitcoin after the company spent $176.3 million repurchasing STRC preferred shares from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. Strategy bought 334 Bitcoin for $28.7 million in that period, bringing its total to 848,000 BTC, according to an Oct. 5 filing. The company raised $5.41 billion through common-stock sales in the third quarter, with only a portion allocated directly to Bitcoin purchases.
Michael Saylor's social media post alluded to adding more Bitcoin after Strategy repurchased roughly 1.77 million STRC preferred shares for $176.3 million between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4. In the same period, the firm acquired 334 BTC for $28.7 million, an Oct. 5 filing showed, raising its total to 848,000 BTC. A formal update was expected no earlier than Tuesday because federal offices were closed Monday for Columbus Day.
Strategy's third-quarter common-stock sales generated $5.41 billion. Analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera found that 9.5% of those proceeds went directly to Bitcoin, while other funds covered reserves, cash, dividends, and preferred buybacks. He noted capital raises need not lead to immediate BTC purchases.
Strategy's moves may shape how public companies and retail investors view Bitcoin as a treasury asset. Further purchases could influence market sentiment and price volatility, affecting crypto holders, shareholders, and counterparties. Buybacks and capital raises may alter risk distribution among common and preferred investors. Broader society could see continued debate over corporate crypto exposure, though outcomes remain uncertain.
