Italy's Rai Picks Up 'Baywatch' Reboot After Prime Video Window
Rai has acquired the Fox and Fremantle Baywatch reboot for Italy after Prime Video Italy's first-window deal ends. The series stars Stephen Amell, Brooks Nader, and Noah Beck, and Fremantle announced the sale at MIPCOM. Prime Video holds rights in multiple other territories, while Sky has UK and Ireland and Stan has Australia.
Rai’s acquisition gives Italian viewers a second window for the Fox and Fremantle reboot once Prime Video Italy’s initial run concludes. The deal was disclosed by Fremantle on the first day of MIPCOM, ahead of a high-profile premiere event that evening.
The cast includes Stephen Amell, Brooks Nader and Noah Beck. Beyond Italy, Prime Video has lined up the series in numerous markets, including Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Canada, Latin America and India. Sky holds UK and Ireland rights, while Stan will carry it in Australia.
The sale may affect Italian subscribers and viewers by shifting access timing: fans who do not use Prime Video could eventually watch on Rai, while Prime Video users may see the title leave after its first window. It could also influence how international distributors package reboots across streaming and broadcast markets, potentially giving legacy broadcasters a renewed role in bringing franchise content to broader audiences.
