Alex Lu: Kavout Co-Founder Blends AI With Investment Research

Alex Lu is a co-founder of Kavout and has more than two decades of experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning. He previously held technology and management roles at Google, Microsoft, Baidu, and JLL Technologies before launching Kavout in 2015. Kavout applies machine learning to investment research, including tools for tracking investor activity and screening stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies.
Alex Lu's academic path crossed three continents: applied mathematics at Tsinghua, computer science at Maryland, and an MBA at Columbia. Before Kavout, he held senior technical and management posts at Baidu, Microsoft, Shanda Interactive Entertainment, Google, and JLL Technologies, spanning search systems, large-scale data, software development, and financial technology. He started Kavout in 2015 as CEO and co-founder.
Kavout's offerings include Smart Money for tracking insider, congressional, analyst, and prominent investor moves; AI Stock Picker for screening equities, ETFs, and digital assets; InvestGPT for conversational investment queries; Smart Signals for real-time alerts; and Portfolio Intelligence for allocation and risk analysis. The firm earned recognition in NVIDIA Inception 2017, Benzinga 2017, and FINCON 2016.
Tools like Kavout's could broaden access to data-driven investment research for retail investors, analysts, and advisors, potentially speeding how market signals are interpreted. They may also encourage greater reliance on algorithmic screening and conversational AI, which could affect decision-making and risk awareness. If such systems are transparent and accurate, they might improve research efficiency; if not, users could misread signals. The wider impact may depend on how institutions, regulators, and investors evaluate these tools.
