McLean Community Players Serve Up a Tuneful, Spooky Addams Family
McLean Community Players is staging The Addams Family musical at the Alden Theatre in McLean during October. Directed by Jake C. Schwartz, the production features Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandma, Uncle Fester, Lurch, and a group of ancestors. The plot turns on Wednesday’s romance with a boy from Ohio and Fester’s claim that the ancestors must stay above ground until true love wins.
The McLean Community Players' October run at the Alden Theatre draws on a musical with songs and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. Charles Addams introduced the family in New Yorker cartoons in the late 1930s; later television and 1990s films made them widely familiar.
Jake C. Schwartz directs a cast including Apollo Yong and Leah Chiaverini as Gomez and Morticia, Sophie Page as Wednesday, and Riley Hogan as Pugsley. Samantha Regan plays Pugsley for certain October 17 and 18 performances. The score includes numbers such as "What If," "Pulled," and "Tango de Amor."
This production could give McLean-area audiences a shared seasonal outing and may introduce community theater to newcomers. Local performers and creative teams may gain experience and visibility, while the Alden Theatre could see increased foot traffic. By mixing familiar characters with live music, it may also encourage families to discuss how arts events build neighborhood connections.
