YouTube Executive Says Platform Is a Distributor, Not a Content Producer

YouTube's European chief Pedro Pina said the platform is not invested in producing content and instead acts as a distributor and revenue-sharing partner. Speaking with RTL Deutschland CEO Stephan Schmitter, Pina said other companies create content while YouTube focuses on delivery. He is meeting traditional TV leaders to encourage collaboration with YouTube.
Pedro Pina, YouTube’s European chief, appeared with RTL Deutschland CEO Stephan Schmitter and described the video platform’s role. He presented YouTube as a delivery service that shares revenue, rather than a company making its own shows.
Pina added that his meetings with established television figures are meant to foster cooperation and help them understand how YouTube works. He said other businesses are better suited to create programming, while YouTube concentrates on getting that material to audiences.
This positioning could affect broadcasters, independent creators, and viewers. Traditional TV companies may see YouTube as a route to broader audiences and shared revenue, while creators might face more competition for attention. Viewers could gain easier access to varied programming, though the platform’s role in deciding what gets promoted may still shape visibility.
