At the ERAA General Assembly in Belfast, held 6–8 October, regional carriers received honors across several categories. Widerøe took both Airline of the Year and Regional Connectivity, while KLM Cityhopper earned Innovation and HOP! received Sustainability.
ASL Airlines Ireland won the People and Culture Award. Its managing director, John Rawl, connected the award to about a year and a half of work to strengthen company culture as the industry changes. The recognition cited employee engagement, leadership, wellbeing, inclusion and support for future aviation professionals.
The awards may draw attention to regional aviation’s role in linking remote and smaller communities. For passengers, continued investment in workforce culture, innovation and sustainability could influence service reliability and travel options. Employees in these airlines may benefit if recognition encourages better engagement, wellbeing and skills development. The wider sector could see examples that help it manage fleet, supply-chain and environmental pressures, though awards alone cannot resolve structural challenges.
