CoComelon Expands Beyond YouTube With Disney+ Move and Theatrical Ambitions

Moonbug Entertainment is shifting the preschool brand CoComelon from Netflix to Disney+ while continuing to build its YouTube presence. The company is preparing The CoComelon Movie with DreamWorks for next year, aiming to turn the long-running children's property into a lasting franchise. Executives believe the film can help the brand grow beyond its origins as a YouTube series.
CoComelon launched on YouTube in September 2006 and has since amassed over 200 million subscribers and 200 billion views. Moonbug later acquired the property and, in 2020, brought reworked YouTube videos to Netflix, where it became popular. The 2023 Netflix spinoff CoComelon Lane gave characters dialogue and more elaborate songs, deepening audience connection. Further extensions include live-action Melon Patch and CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends.
Next year, the main CoComelon series is set to leave Netflix for Disney+, which is strengthening its preschool slate alongside titles such as Bluey. Moonbug is also preparing The CoComelon Movie with DreamWorks, aiming to turn the YouTube-born brand into a durable franchise.
The Disney+ shift and planned movie could affect families with preschoolers, who may encounter the brand through new subscriptions or theaters rather than only YouTube or Netflix. It may also influence how children’s media creators pursue cross-platform growth, while giving Disney+ another familiar title for young viewers. Whether this deepens screen-time debates or simply offers more choice depends on how parents and platforms manage access.
