European Energy, Enlight and Centrica expand battery storage across Lithuania and Finland

European Energy opened a 25 MW/65 MWh battery at its Anykščiai renewable park in Lithuania, where it operates alongside a 78.5 MW solar farm. Enlight acquired a 100 MW/400 MWh ready-to-build battery project in Pyhäjoki, Finland, from Usva Energia, with a planned connection to Elenia's 110 kV network. Centrica Energy signed a partial tolling agreement for the 125 MW/300 MWh AKKU One battery in Lapinlahti, Finland, to trade and optimize the asset in Nordic markets.
European Energy’s Lithuanian site pairs a 25 MW/65 MWh battery with a 78.5 MW solar array, covering about 120 hectares and producing roughly 80 GWh of renewable electricity yearly. This is its first Baltic storage installation, with a 12 MW/50 MWh project underway in Telšiai and over 400 MW operating plus about 800 MW in development in Lithuania.
In Finland, Enlight bought a 100 MW/400 MWh ready-to-build battery in Pyhäjoki from Usva Energia, planned for Elenia’s 110 kV network. Centrica Energy will trade and optimize the 125 MW/300 MWh AKKU One project in Lapinlahti under a partial tolling deal with Delta Capacity and Covenergo; commissioning is set for late 2027.
These projects may help Nordic and Baltic grids absorb more variable solar and wind, potentially improving reliability and shifting renewable power to times of higher demand. Households and businesses could see indirect effects through wholesale prices and balancing costs, while local areas may gain construction and operational activity. Traders, developers and network operators may take on new roles in managing storage, though outcomes depend on market rules, grid connections and project delivery.
