Google launched the Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 wearable that sits between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch and adds an OLED screen to a slim band. Preorders are open through the Google Store, with availability set for October 27 in Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon, plus a $219.99 Stephen Curry Special Edition.
Google introduced the Fitbit Edge on Monday, slotting it between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch. At $179.99, it adds an OLED display to a slim band for maps, notifications, weather, and music controls. It supports Gemini-powered Google Health Coach with a Premium subscription and Health Guardian, announced with the Pixel Watch 5 in August.
The Edge automatically logs up to 100 activities and offers more than 50 exercise modes with on-screen prompts. Google says GPS accuracy improves 40% and sleep-stage detection 15% over earlier versions. Battery life reaches seven days, with 50-meter water resistance. Preorders are open; store availability starts October 27 in Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon, plus a $219.99 Stephen Curry Special Edition.
The Fitbit Edge may appeal to budget-conscious buyers who want more screen utility than a basic tracker but less cost and complexity than a smartwatch. Its health-monitoring features could encourage more people to track sleep, activity, and long-term metrics, though reliance on subscriptions and Google’s ecosystem may limit some users. Rivals could respond with similar midrange wearables, while clinicians and privacy advocates may watch how sensitive health data is handled. Overall, it could nudge the wearable market toward slimmer, health-focused devices with optional AI coaching.
