Dan Levy criticises Shane Gillis over SNL monologue remarks about women at the gym

Dan Levy publicly criticised Shane Gillis over remarks made during Gillis's latest Saturday Night Live monologue about women's clothing at gyms. In an Instagram post, Levy said such attire does not justify calling women sex workers and described the comments as misogynistic. He added that men should challenge this kind of objectification because it normalises harmful attitudes toward women.
Gillis’s latest SNL hosting stint was his third, after appearances in February 2024 and March 2025. In 2019, he was dropped from the show shortly after being hired when old podcast recordings containing racist and homophobic remarks resurfaced, according to Variety. Levy, who hosted SNL in 2021 following his work on Schitt’s Creek, responded on Instagram.
That same episode featured Rosalía as musical guest, performing “Reliquia” and “Magnolias”; it was her second SNL musical slot. Other musical guests this season included KATSEYE and Turnstile. Levy’s post argued that gym clothing does not justify calling women sex workers and said men should challenge objectification.
The exchange could amplify ongoing debates about misogyny in comedy and broadcast standards. Women who use gyms may feel more scrutinized, while male viewers and comedians may face pressure to consider how jokes shape attitudes. SNL and its network may also draw renewed attention over what airs live. The discussion may influence public conversation, but its lasting impact will likely depend on whether it moves beyond social media criticism into broader cultural or industry responses.
