Grimes reveals ‘Psyopera’ album and ‘Accelerando’ single, rules out Elon Musk songs

Grimes has announced her first album since 2020’s ‘Miss Anthropocene’, titled ‘Psyopera’, along with the dark, ravey single ‘Accelerando’. She said the record will not include songs about her ex Elon Musk and confirmed she did not use AI to create the music, despite AI being a central theme. No release date has been announced, but it will arrive on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC.
Grimes’s upcoming record, Psyopera, is her first since Miss Anthropocene in 2020. It will be released through Nazgul Recording LLC, her own label, though no date has been set. The lead track, “Accelerando,” is a collaboration with VADAKIN and has a harsh, rave-like sound.
She told the Swiftologist podcast that the project avoids Musk-related material, saying she didn’t want it to center on him. She also suggested it might be divided into two parts, with a second section described as entirely personal. AI remains a key theme, but she has said she did not use AI to make the songs.
The announcement may intensify discussions about AI in music, since Grimes both explores the theme and says she avoided using it to create these songs. Fans and artists watching her independent label release could see it as a test of whether a major act can bypass traditional label structures. Her choice to keep the album separate from Musk may also shape how listeners interpret her public persona, though the actual impact will depend on the music and release timing.
