UK Crypto Trader Loses $800K in Violent Home Robbery

A cryptocurrency trader in Solihull, England, was attacked by three masked men who forced him to transfer about $800,000 in digital assets. The intruders beat him with hammers, threatened his pregnant wife with a knife, and appeared to take directions from a fourth person on a video call. Police have made no arrests, and Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward for information.
The victim, called James, began cryptocurrency trading in 2020 and became full-time in 2023. The December 13, 2025, raid in Smith’s Wood, Solihull, lasted about 45 minutes; the attackers also seized expensive Rolex watches and reportedly left in a black BMW X3.
West Midlands Police have not arrested anyone. On September 24, 2026, Crimestoppers offered £10,000 for information. Suspects are described as men in their twenties, including one Black man with a facial scar. Such robberies have increased alongside digital asset prices, with roughly $30 million lost through mid-2026.
The case may deepen concerns among crypto holders that large balances can make them targets, especially if attackers believe transfers are irreversible. Families could face lasting trauma, while local communities may feel less safe. Police and reward programs may rely more on public tips. It could also push traders toward stronger privacy, security, and in-person safeguards, though such measures may not eliminate risk.
