Netavo Opens Its Broadband Gateway Platform to Other ISPs

UK-based Netavo has commercially released the broadband gateway software it uses on its own network. The platform runs on standard x86 servers and combines subscriber administration, carrier-grade address translation, and provider-edge routing. Netavo says it can handle up to 100,000 concurrent subscribers and reach 200 Gbps, with subscriber-based licensing and a free evaluation build.
Netavo, a UK network operator and software vendor, has moved its gateway and L2TP server product from internal production use to commercial availability. The software is designed to run on ordinary x86 hardware, letting broadband providers deploy it on their own equipment rather than dedicated appliances.
It handles PPPoE, IPoE and L2TP access, supports IPv4 and IPv6, and can serve as a standalone CGNAT appliance. Netavo cites support for 100,000 simultaneous subscribers and up to 200 Gbps from its own tests. Licensing is tied to concurrent users, with all features included and no separate bandwidth fee. A free build caps at 50 concurrent users with no expiry.
Smaller and regional broadband providers could gain a more flexible path to modernising their networks, since software running on commodity servers may reduce reliance on specialised hardware. If adopted, this could support faster service rollouts or more competitive offerings for households and businesses, including in areas with limited choice. Licensing tied to subscriber numbers may also make costs easier to predict. The real effect, however, will depend on operator uptake, integration effort and performance outside vendor benchmarks.
