Jaclyn Whyte Replaces Seasonal Bridal Line With One-of-a-Kind Gowns

Toronto bridal designer Jaclyn Whyte is leaving the traditional two-season schedule and replacing her fall collection with 'The Exhibition,' a group of eight one-of-a-kind gowns. The move responds to brides worried about seeing the same dress on someone else, with some asking her to pause production until after their weddings. The gowns start at $15,000 and will be presented after press and buyer appointments at The Plaza.
Jaclyn Whyte founded her Toronto bridal label in 2011 and has long offered custom work, though commissioning a design from the beginning can cost more and be difficult for brides to envision from a drawing. Her atelier staff noticed more brides asking how many copies of a style would be made, with some even requesting a production pause until after their weddings.
The Exhibition comprises eight unique gowns, priced from $15,000. After press and buyer appointments at The Plaza, the collection will tour nationally, stopping at Bergdorf Goodman, The Wedding Shoppe, NWLA and Stanley Korshak. Each selected gown is retired permanently. Whyte has hinted at generous use of Alençon, Chantilly and corded macramé lace.
This shift could appeal to affluent brides who want a gown no one else can wear, while retailers may benefit from trunk-show urgency and scarcity. It may also reinforce wedding culture’s emphasis on exclusivity and social-media distinction, potentially pressuring other designers to offer limited or unique pieces. At the same time, the $15,000 starting point could keep such options out of reach for many shoppers, possibly widening the gap between luxury bridal experiences and more accessible alternatives.
