Spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $681 million less than they paid out from Oct. 5 to Oct. 9, reversing three straight weeks of net inflows. Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $542 million in net withdrawals over the same five-day window. Combined, the two groups lost $1.223 billion, according to Wu Blockchain.
BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF, ticker ETHA, drove most of the Ethereum category’s outflows with $477 million in net outflows—roughly 88% of the total. The other spot Ethereum funds together accounted for about $65 million in net withdrawals. ETF flow data tracks net capital movement and offers one demand gauge, though it does not by itself explain price moves or investor choices.
The outflows may affect retail and institutional investors using ETFs for crypto exposure, potentially shaping short-term sentiment and risk appetite. Financial advisers and fund providers could face questions about allocation and liquidity. Broader society may see headlines reinforcing crypto volatility, though ETF flows alone cannot show why investors moved or predict prices.
