Mumbai Airport Postpones Navi Mumbai Shift, Preserving Winter Slots for Airlines

Adani Airport Holdings has pushed back the planned transfer of international flights from Mumbai airport’s Terminal 2 to Navi Mumbai until the summer 2027 schedule. The delay came after talks with airline representatives on Tuesday and temporarily settles a dispute over freeing space at Terminal 2 for domestic flights displaced by the Terminal 1 rebuild. Airlines will retain their winter slots at Mumbai airport.
Adani Airport Holdings has delayed moving international flights from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 to Navi Mumbai until the summer 2027 schedule, which begins in March 2027. The decision followed a Tuesday meeting between company officials and the Airline Operators Committee of Mumbai Airport.
The postponement means airlines will keep their winter slots at Mumbai airport. It also temporarily eases a disagreement over creating room at Terminal 2 for domestic carriers affected by the Terminal 1 rebuilding project. Jeet Adani and Arun Bansal represented Adani in the talks, according to a Mumbai Airports spokesperson.
The delay may give airlines and passengers more certainty through the winter, as carriers keep their Mumbai slots and avoid a near-term terminal switch. Travelers could see fewer disruptions from a rushed relocation, while domestic flyers affected by the Terminal 1 rebuild may still face congestion at Terminal 2. Navi Mumbai’s aviation ecosystem may wait longer for international traffic, potentially slowing expected economic benefits for surrounding areas.
