Nvidia’s China AI-Chip Shipment Share Drops to 34% as Huawei Reaches 28%
Nvidia’s portion of AI chips shipped for Chinese data centers fell to 34% in the first half of 2026, while Huawei reached 28%, according to Reuters citing IDC. Nvidia shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in China during the period, down 44% year over year, and Huawei shipped 572,000. The report measures January–June shipments and does not directly change Nvidia’s existing outlook, which already assumes no China data-center compute revenue.
According to Reuters, citing IDC, Nvidia accounted for 34% of AI accelerators shipped to Chinese data centers in January–June 2026, while Huawei held 28%. Nvidia’s unit total was 678,000, a 44% decline from the same period a year earlier; Huawei shipped 572,000. The reported figures cover unit shipments, not equivalent performance, pricing, or revenue.
Nvidia’s existing guidance already assumes no China data-center compute revenue. Its August 26 outlook projected third-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $108 billion, plus or minus 2%, after $96.221 billion in the prior quarter. The shipment data and the revenue forecast use different periods and scopes, so they should not be treated as directly comparable.
The shift could affect Chinese cloud providers and AI developers by changing which accelerators are available, potentially influencing training costs and service performance. It may also shape global semiconductor supply chains and competition, while consumers could see indirect effects through AI products and pricing. Because the report covers shipments, not revenue or capability, the social impact remains uncertain and may depend on export rules and future product availability.
