CME Drops Dallas Stop, Plans Direct Google Cloud Migration to Aurora in 2027
CME Group is removing the Dallas production phase from the migration of its livestock futures and options markets to Google Cloud and will move those markets directly to Aurora, Illinois, in late 2027. The exchange operator said Aurora construction is ahead of schedule, client testing is targeted for mid-2027, and initial Globex cloud performance testing is complete. CME’s technology costs are rising faster than revenue, so the revised route may help but has not yet been shown to deliver specific savings.
CME Group has revised its livestock futures and options cloud migration. Instead of an interim production launch in Google Cloud's Dallas region during Q4 2026, followed by a Chicago-area move in H2 2028, the exchange now intends to shift those markets straight to Aurora, Illinois, in late 2027. Client testing in Aurora is planned for mid-2027, and early Globex cloud performance checks are finished.
Dallas still hosts disaster-recovery testing, which began in June 2026 and remains separate. The company’s technology budget has expanded at a quicker pace than its top line, though the announcement did not quantify savings from skipping the Dallas production phase. The next financial update is set for October 21.
The shift may affect livestock market participants—producers, brokers, traders, and clearing firms—who depend on CME’s futures and options. A direct Aurora migration could simplify operations and potentially reduce transition risk, while the later first cloud launch may delay any expected performance or resilience gains. Because technology spending is outpacing revenue, customers and shareholders could eventually feel pressure through costs or service priorities, though the announcement provides no confirmed savings or societal outcome.
