One UI 9 update reaches Galaxy S24 and 2024 foldables

Samsung has started rolling out One UI 9, based on Android 17, to the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The update is available in the US, South Korea, India, and Europe and adds features such as Call Brief, a customizable Quick Panel, My FanCam, and improvements to DeX and Notes. The article suggests the update makes upgrading to the Galaxy S27 less urgent.
Samsung’s One UI 9, built on Android 17, is now reaching its 2024 flagship lineup: Galaxy S24 models, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6. Availability spans the United States, South Korea, India, and Europe. The rollout follows earlier delays, after the software debuted alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 in July.
The release adds a customizable Quick Panel, Call Brief for real-time call context, My FanCam subject reframing, a location privacy indicator, and updates to Samsung DeX and Notes. Meanwhile, Google’s Pixel devices have faced Android 17 bugs, with the Pixel 11 Pro reportedly running a less advanced version than the older Pixel 6.
This rollout could extend useful AI and privacy features to people who keep phones longer, reducing pressure to replace working devices. It may benefit Samsung users in supported regions first, while others wait. Better call context and video reframing could help everyday communication and memory-keeping, though reliance on AI summaries may shape expectations. Pixel bugs may remind consumers that software quality, not just new hardware, influences satisfaction.
