Ryan Coogler's X-Files Reimagining Lands Series Order at Hulu

Hulu has ordered a new take on The X-Files from Ryan Coogler, with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel starring as two FBI agents assigned to a reopened unit for unexplained cases. Coogler wrote and directed the pilot and serves as an executive producer, while Jennifer Yale is showrunner. The project is a reimagining rather than a continuation focused on Mulder and Scully.
Hulu has greenlit a fresh X-Files series from Ryan Coogler. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel play two FBI agents whose differing backgrounds lead to an unexpected partnership in a revived bureau unit handling bizarre, unresolved cases. Coogler penned and helmed the pilot and executive produces; Jennifer Yale is showrunner. Deadwyler and Patel also co-executive produce.
The show is a new interpretation, not a Mulder-and-Scully continuation. The original Fox drama aired nine seasons, produced two movies, and returned for two Hulu seasons between 2016 and 2018. Gillian Anderson, who played Scully, has recently suggested she might be open to a small appearance.
This order may give Hulu a high-profile genre title and draw curious original X-Files fans alongside newer viewers. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel could gain wider visibility, while writers, directors, and crew may benefit from a major production. If the reimagining succeeds, it might encourage streamers to revisit other beloved series with fresh casts and creative teams, though audience fatigue with reboots could temper its reach.
