Tower and Semtech Deepen SiGe Supply Deal for AI Data Center Optics
Tower Semiconductor and Semtech expanded a multi-year agreement for dedicated silicon germanium capacity at Tower to support Semtech’s AI data center optical interconnect components. Semtech’s signal integrity portfolio, including transimpedance amplifiers and drivers, is built on Tower’s SiGe process for high-speed optical and copper links. The companies also plan joint technology roadmap work, and Semtech recently received an ECOC 2026 award for a 224 Gbps per lane TIA family.
The deal extends a relationship between Tower Semiconductor and Semtech that dates back two decades. Semtech is committing investment to reserve SiGe manufacturing capacity at Tower, reflecting design wins and expected demand for parts used in AI data center optical interconnects.
Tower's SiGe platform underpins Semtech's signal-integrity products, such as transimpedance amplifiers, laser and modulator drivers, and linear equalizers. These support architectures including fully retimed, linear pluggable, linear receive, near-packaged, extra-dense pluggable optics, PCB equalizers, and active copper cables. Reserved capacity covers Tower sites in the United States, Israel, and Japan. The companies also intend to coordinate technology roadmaps.
The expanded SiGe supply arrangement could help stabilize production of high-speed optical components as AI data centers scale. That may affect cloud operators, equipment makers, and ultimately users of AI services by influencing how quickly faster, more power-efficient interconnects become available. It could also shape regional semiconductor supply resilience, though the practical benefits depend on execution, demand, and broader infrastructure constraints.
