Ripple and Stripe's Privy Team Up for AI Payment Tools on XRP Ledger

Ripple announced a partnership with Privy, a Stripe subsidiary, to create AI-enabled payment applications and embedded wallets on the XRP Ledger. The effort centers on agentic commerce and the x402 protocol, which is intended to let software and AI agents pay for digital services using assets such as XRP or RLUSD. RippleX's J. Ayo Akinyele said AI-driven transactions on the XRPL grew from roughly 1 million in July to about 13 million in October, representing around 25% of network activity.
Ripple's collaboration with Privy, a Stripe subsidiary, centers on AI-capable payment apps and embedded wallets for the XRP Ledger. Privy offers programmable wallet infrastructure intended to ease wallet creation, user approvals, and crypto payments inside applications.
The x402 protocol aims to support software-to-software purchases of digital resources, including computing power, API access, and AI model outputs, settled with XRP or RLUSD. RippleX's J. Ayo Akinyele said AI-related transactions on XRPL climbed from roughly 1 million in July to about 13 million in October, close to one-quarter of ledger activity. Ripple plans to add controls over transaction rules and sponsored fees as integration proceeds.
If AI agents can transact autonomously, developers and businesses may build services that charge per API call or data use, potentially reducing friction for small digital purchases. Consumers could see more automated subscriptions or payments, raising questions about oversight, wallet security, and accountability. The impact may depend on adoption, safeguards, and whether users understand when software spends their funds.
