Nationwide opens nominations for ag teacher honors in 16 states
Nationwide has opened nominations for the 2026-27 Golden Owl Award, which recognizes outstanding agricultural educators. The program is expanding to 16 states, with Colorado joining for the first time. Since 2018, it has honored hundreds of teachers and provided more than $800,000 for agricultural education programs, FFA chapters, and student initiatives.

Eligible educators work in states including California, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio and Utah. Since 2018, the award has recognized hundreds of teachers and directed over $800,000 toward agricultural education, FFA chapters and student programs.
In 2025-26, more than 4,900 nominations came from 15 states; 107 teachers were honored, with 15 named state Ag Educator of the Year. Students, parents, colleagues and community members may submit nominations. State finalists receive plaques and program funds, while each state winner gets a trophy and extra support. Deadlines vary; most close in late 2026.
Recognizing ag teachers may strengthen rural education pipelines by encouraging retention and community support. Students could benefit from better-funded programs, FFA activities and mentorship, while schools and local ag industries may gain a more prepared workforce. The expanded state list, including Colorado, may broaden access to recognition and resources. However, impact depends on participation, funding levels and how awards translate into sustained classroom investment.
