Apple may refresh iPad Mini with OLED screen and A20 Pro chip this month

Apple is reportedly preparing a new iPad Mini with an OLED display for a launch later in October. The tablet is expected to use the A20 Pro chip, cost more than the current LCD model, and possibly move the front camera to the longer edge. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests the event could occur around 27 October.
The current iPad Mini arrived two years ago and was regarded as the leading compact tablet at that time; the article says that assessment still holds in 2026. An OLED panel would be the main upgrade, but the refreshed version is tipped to cost noticeably more than today’s LCD model, which begins at £599/$599, with a possible £799/$799 starting point.
Apple’s A20 Pro silicon, first seen in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, is expected to power the tablet. Other rumored changes include moving the front camera to the longer side for better video calls and revising the speakers. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman places the Mac-and-iPad event around 27 October, though an in-person component remains unclear.
A pricier OLED iPad Mini could appeal to frequent travelers, commuters, students, and creative professionals who value portability and better screens. It may push some budget-conscious buyers toward older models or rival small tablets. The shift could also encourage accessory makers and app developers to treat compact tablets as more premium devices. However, higher pricing may limit adoption, so its broader cultural effect may remain modest unless Apple brings OLED to cheaper iPads.
