OnePlus 16 debuts in China with 200MP camera and 9,000mAh battery

OnePlus has introduced the OnePlus 16 in China, featuring a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, up to 16GB RAM, and 1TB storage. It includes a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display, a 200MP main camera, and a 9,000mAh battery with 100W wired charging. Since OnePlus is leaving Western markets, buyers there may need to import the phone and deal with extra fees and software issues.
The OnePlus 16 has gone on sale in China at CNY 5,999, roughly £680. It pairs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with as much as 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Its 6.78-inch LTPO OLED screen reaches 1272 x 2772 and a 185Hz peak refresh rate, though that rate is limited to certain games.
Camera hardware includes a 200MP f/1.6 main sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP front camera. The 9,000mAh battery supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, but lacks built-in Qi2 magnets. A global variant is reportedly planned, yet official Western sales are not.
The OnePlus 16 may mainly affect enthusiasts in the UK, US, and Europe who want flagship hardware without official local sales. They could face import fees, limited warranty support, and software or network compatibility quirks. Chinese buyers get easier access, while Western shoppers may see fewer familiar options in the premium Android market. The reported global variant could soften some software issues, but it may not restore mainstream availability or after-sales service. Overall, the phone’s impact is likely niche rather than broad.
