A London Rental’s High Ceilings Inspired a Dramatic Built-In Bookcase

Rosie Dart transformed her London rental living room, which had damaged walls and dated previous-tenant decor, into a colorful space that evokes a treehouse. She painted the room in Farrow & Ball's Wimborne White and added a full-wall custom bookcase by Lozi Designs to exploit the tall ceiling. The built-in includes concealed storage for supplies, coats, shoes, and cleaning equipment.
Rosie Dart, an illustrator, content creator, and director, rents a London apartment with an open loft that produces an unusually tall living room. Before moving in, she dealt with wall damage and dated decor left by prior occupants, plus deteriorating window frames. She chose Farrow & Ball’s Wimborne White for the walls.
To use the height, Lozi Designs installed a full-wall bookcase. Its lower sections conceal DIY and camera gear, coats, shoes, and cleaning tools; upper shelves hold vintage objects and books. A rolling ladder reaches the top, and the room retains a sash window, cornicing, and a ceiling rose. A mustard Togo Loveseat and a glass-block coffee table complete the compact layout.
This story may resonate with renters who want personalized homes despite lease limits. It could encourage reversible or landlord-approved upgrades, like paint and custom storage, while highlighting how professional built-ins can be costly. Landlords and designers may see demand for rental-friendly solutions that improve awkward spaces. Viewers might feel inspired to use vertical space and conceal clutter, though not every tenant can afford bespoke work.
