Eton Licenses U.S. Rights to Aquestive’s Seizure Rescue Film LIBERVANT

Eton Pharmaceuticals and Aquestive Therapeutics have signed an exclusive U.S. license and supply agreement for LIBERVANT, a diazepam buccal film intended for seizure clusters in epilepsy patients. Eton expects to launch the product in April 2027 if the FDA grants final approval. The companies say the film could offer an alternative to nasal and rectal rescue treatments in a U.S. market worth more than $450 million annually.
Aquestive Therapeutics developed LIBERVANT, a diazepam buccal film for epilepsy-related seizure clusters, and Eton Pharmaceuticals gained sole U.S. rights to sell it. The companies also arranged licensing and supply terms, with Eton aiming for April 2027 commercial availability if the FDA grants final approval.
LIBERVANT has Orphan Drug Designation, and its issued patent protection extends into 2038, with additional applications pending. In patient research, 71% of respondents preferred the film over nasal spray, compared with 13% for nasal spray, assuming equal effectiveness. The U.S. market for seizure rescue treatments exceeds $450 million annually.
If approved and launched, LIBERVANT could give epilepsy patients and caregivers another way to manage seizure clusters, potentially improving convenience and portability compared with nasal or rectal options. This may especially matter for people who dislike or cannot use existing delivery methods. Wider availability could also intensify competition in the rescue-treatment market, possibly affecting pricing and access. However, actual benefits will depend on final FDA review, real-world effectiveness, tolerability, and payer coverage.
