The International Energy Agency warned that diesel supply will remain constrained well into 2027. Wholesale diesel prices reached all-time highs of about $220 a barrel in Europe and the U.S. last month. The agency said stock shortfalls will persist until late next year.
The International Energy Agency expects diesel supply to stay constrained into 2027. It cited insufficient stockpiles that it expects to endure into the latter part of next year.
In Europe and the United States, bulk diesel costs hit record levels last month, around $220 a barrel. The agency’s warning suggests the market will not quickly return to easier conditions.
If diesel remains scarce and costly, sectors dependent on heavy transport and machinery may face higher operating costs. Those expenses could be passed along, adding pressure to food, retail, and other delivered goods. Households and small businesses with limited ability to absorb fuel price swings may feel the effects most, though the scale and duration remain uncertain.
