Bogotá Weighs Penalties Against El Campín Operator Over Poor Pitch

Bogotá’s sports institute, the IDRD, began reviewing possible contract violations by Sencia, the private operator of El Campín stadium, after a top-flight match was called off minutes before kickoff on October 13 because the turf was unplayable. The city may impose quality discounts, fines, or a penalty clause under a contract that tracks more than 500 indicators. Concerts scheduled for October 24 and 31 and another home match are now uncertain.
El Campín is city property and serves as both the home ground for Millonarios and Independiente Santa Fe and Bogotá’s principal large-concert site. Sencia manages it through a public-private partnership, and the contract monitors over 500 performance indicators. On 14 October, Bogotá’s sports institute started examining whether Sencia breached the contract; available responses include quality discounts, fines, and a penalty clause.
After two BTS shows in early October, damaged turf led Sencia to replace the surface, but the new grass did not bind properly. The Dimayor then called off Millonarios–Once Caldas on 13 October, saying player safety required it; its president also questioned broader facility upkeep.
The dispute may affect fans, concertgoers, clubs, and stadium workers if late-October events are moved or postponed. It could also shape public confidence in how Bogotá oversees private management of a major civic venue, potentially prompting closer scrutiny of service quality and contract enforcement. Travellers with tickets may face disruption, while the city’s ability to balance football and concert use could come under greater pressure.
