Ubisoft Cuts 70 Jobs at Singapore Studio and Shuts Down Redlynx After Black Flag Resynced Success

Ubisoft is laying off 70 employees at Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, three months after the game sold millions of copies. The publisher also plans to close Ubisoft Redlynx, the Trials studio, following an earlier restructuring proposal. Ubisoft said the Singapore cuts are meant to align the studio with upcoming production needs.
Ubisoft Singapore, which developed the well-received Black Flag Resynced, is losing 70 roles. The title reportedly moved two million copies in a day and three million within a week, beating annual targets after a fortnight. Earlier, support studio Ubisoft Barcelona cut nearly one-third of its staff soon after release.
The publisher also intends to shut Redlynx in Finland, potentially affecting 52 jobs, pending local negotiations. Founded in 2000 and bought by Ubisoft in 2011, Redlynx is known for Trials; its last entry arrived in 2019. It later assisted Star Wars Outlaws and made Gwen's Getaway. A report says the studio lacked another project, and reducing its size would not have kept it sustainable.
The cuts may affect dozens of workers and their families in Singapore and Finland, while shrinking two studios with distinct histories. Fans of Trials could see fewer future titles, and the wider industry may read the layoffs as a signal that even commercial success does not guarantee stability. This could dampen morale and make game development careers feel less secure, though Ubisoft says Singapore remains part of its global production network.
