Cambridge Audio Spira Turntable Targets First-Time Vinyl Listeners at $499

Cambridge Audio has introduced the Spira, a belt-drive turntable priced at $499. It arrives with an Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge already mounted and aligned, plus a built-in phono preamp and Bluetooth transmitter. The design aims to reduce setup hurdles for newcomers while still allowing wired RCA output and later component upgrades.
Cambridge Audio's Spira is a $499 belt-drive deck aimed at reducing first-time setup friction. It ships with an Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge pre-fitted and aligned, plus an onboard phono stage and Bluetooth transmitter. Wired RCA output remains available, and the Bluetooth function only sends audio rather than accepting phone playback.
The turntable uses a 1.8 kg steel platter, lacquered MDF plinth, felt mat, and rubber isolation feet. Its straight aluminum tonearm offers adjustable tracking force and anti-skate, with a recommended 3–3.5 g range. Electronic speed selection covers 33⅓ and 45 RPM, while playback stays manual. A removable headshell eases cartridge swaps, and the ATN3600LE elliptical stylus is compatible.
The Spira may lower entry barriers for people curious about vinyl, especially younger or budget-conscious listeners who lack separate hi-fi components. By bundling a preamp and Bluetooth, it could let households reuse existing speakers or headphones, potentially reducing initial spending and clutter. Audio retailers and accessory makers might see different demand patterns, as some buyers delay upgrades while others later seek cartridges or styli. Its impact may remain modest, since vinyl remains a niche hobby and sound quality still depends on records, speakers, and room setup.
