Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’ Powers First Look at Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’

The debut trailer for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew uses Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway To Heaven.’ Gerwig met with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to secure permission for the song. The film, based on C.S. Lewis’s Narnia prequel, stars Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep, among others.
The Magician’s Nephew appeared in 1955 as the sixth published Narnia book, though its events precede The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Gerwig has described the story’s world-created-by-song idea as central to her vision.
To license Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” Gerwig met directly with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. Emma Mackey plays the White Witch, Daniel Craig the Magician, and Meryl Streep voices Aslan; David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell and Carey Mulligan also appear. The film reaches cinemas on February 12, 2027, then Netflix on April 2.
The trailer’s use of a canonical rock song, paired with Gerwig’s broad appeal, could draw both longtime Narnia readers and Led Zeppelin fans to the film. It may renew cultural conversation around C.S. Lewis’s books and music licensing in trailers. Netflix and cinemas could benefit from cross-generational interest, while audiences may see how a beloved children’s fantasy is reimagined for contemporary screens.
