Anthropic's growth deceleration prompts scrutiny of AI investment outlook

Anthropic is still expanding rapidly, but its sequential revenue growth slowed to about 45% in Q3 2026 after more than doubling in Q2. Leaked figures show large operating losses and roughly $518 billion in non-cancellable compute commitments over the next decade. The company is reportedly preparing for a November 2026 IPO at a valuation near $2 trillion.
Anthropic's 2025 revenue was just under $4.6 billion, a twelvefold increase from the previous year. Quarterly sales then rose from about $4.7 billion in Q1 2026 to $11.5–$11.6 billion in Q2 and $16.8 billion in Q3. Annualized revenue reportedly hit roughly $65 billion by July 2026, up from about $9 billion earlier that year.
The company's 2025 operating loss exceeded $8 billion, while its net loss was about $42 billion. Compute and infrastructure costs reached $7.33 billion. Leaked documents also indicate roughly $518 billion in non-cancellable compute commitments over ten years, with Amazon, Google and Microsoft among major partners. Two customers generated about a quarter of 2025 revenue.
Anthropic's IPO and spending plans may shape how capital flows into frontier AI, affecting investors, employees, and customers who rely on Claude. Its large compute commitments could tie cloud providers and infrastructure suppliers more tightly to AI demand, while slower growth might temper hiring or product investment. If public markets question the economics, other AI startups could face tougher funding conditions. The outcome may also influence how quickly advanced AI tools spread across businesses and society.
