Kelsey Grammer Attached to Star in NBC Medical Drama Pops

Kelsey Grammer is set to star in Pops, a medical drama in development at NBC. The series would follow a man who leaves a successful career to enter emergency medicine alongside first responders much younger than him, inspired by Ed Levien, who became an EMT in his 60s. Danny Weiss, a former Chicago Med co-executive producer, will write and executive-produce, with Grammer also executive-producing.
Kelsey Grammer is attached to lead Pops, an NBC medical drama now in development. The character is a person who exits a long-established career and, seeking a reset, joins emergency medicine with much younger first responders. The idea comes from Ed Levien, a Maryland man who trained as an EMT in his 60s.
Danny Weiss, formerly a co-executive producer on Chicago Med, will write and executive produce. Grammer also executive produces with Grammnet's Jordan McMahon, Levien, and 3 Arts Entertainment; Universal Television backs it. Grammer played Frasier Crane across Cheers and Frasier, and Paramount+'s revival ended in 2025. David Hyde Pierce, his former co-star, is attached to a separate NBC comedy.
If Pops moves forward, it could resonate with older viewers contemplating late-career shifts and with emergency-medical workers whose jobs rarely get sustained network drama treatment. Grammer's return may draw nostalgic Frasier audiences, while the premise could gently challenge assumptions about age and capability in high-pressure workplaces. Its actual social effect, however, would depend on execution, reach, and whether the show treats later-life career changes and first-responder work with nuance.
