AT&T sells Mexican business to Televisa and Fintech Holdings for $2B
AT&T is selling AT&T Mexico to Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings for $2 billion in cash. The transaction ends AT&T's operations in Mexico after more than a decade. It comes after Telefónica also exited the country.
AT&T has agreed to divest its Mexican unit to Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings. The deal is valued at $2 billion in cash. With this sale, AT&T's presence in Mexico, which lasted more than ten years, will come to an end.
The move follows another major telecom departure from Mexico: Telefónica has already left the country. The buyers, Televisa and Fintech Holdings, will take over AT&T Mexico under the agreement.
Mexican mobile customers, employees, and competitors could feel effects as AT&T Mexico changes hands. Televisa and Fintech Holdings may set different priorities for pricing, investment, or service quality, though the outcome is uncertain. With another major operator having exited, questions about competition and consumer choice may arise. Workers could face restructuring, while customers might see shifts in plans or network focus. The country's 5G rollout may also be influenced by the new owners' strategies.
