Public Clothing Co. Buys Mansur Gavriel Accessories Brand

Public Clothing Co. has acquired Mansur Gavriel and its assets for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2013 by Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel, the brand is known for minimalist handbags, footwear and small leather goods, and won two CFDA awards early on. It is unclear whether the cofounders will remain with the company.
Public Clothing Co. has taken over Mansur Gavriel, including its assets, for an amount it has not disclosed. The label began in 2013 under Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel, gaining notice for understated bags, shoes and small leather goods, especially its early bucket and tote styles.
Within three years it received two CFDA honors: the 2015 Swarovski accessory design award and 2016 accessories designer of the year. GF Capital took a majority position in 2019; the founders kept a minority stake. Maria Borromeo became CEO in 2023, after Isabelle Fevrier, with a brief to streamline offerings and improve profitability. The company now has no standalone stores.
The acquisition could affect shoppers, employees and small accessories labels. Fans may worry that Mansur Gavriel’s minimalist identity or pricing will change under new ownership, while staff and suppliers may see operational shifts. If Public Clothing Co. invests in direct-to-consumer growth, the brand may reach more customers, but its creative direction and founders’ involvement remain uncertain. The deal may also signal continued consolidation in fashion, potentially making independent accessory brands more reliant on larger backers.
