Tag Christof's midcentury photography opens Herman Miller's Palm Springs store

Photographer Tag Christof is presenting a new exhibition, 'Hot Line', at Herman Miller's recently opened Palm Springs store. The show examines the area's midcentury modern architecture and how those buildings have been preserved, used and adapted over time. It runs alongside the Palm Springs Modernism Week preview from 15 to 18 October 2026 and marks the launch of Herman Miller's largest retail space in North America.
The exhibition was commissioned by Herman Miller to coincide with the debut of its biggest retail space in North America. Tag Christof created new photographs for 'Hot Line', focusing on midcentury modern buildings across the region and how they have been maintained, repurposed and reshaped over time.
The show is timed with the Palm Springs Modernism Week preview from 15 to 18 October 2026 and stays open until Modernism Week 2027 in February. It can be seen at Herman Miller, 73-425 El Paseo, Suite 110, Palm Desert, CA 92260. Christof has described these structures as emblems of earlier optimism, even when they are changing.
The exhibition may draw design-minded visitors and local residents to Palm Springs/Palm Desert during Modernism Week, potentially boosting cultural tourism and retail foot traffic. It could also encourage broader public reflection on how midcentury buildings are reused, affecting preservationists, architects, homeowners, and businesses. By linking a furniture brand with architectural heritage, it may strengthen commercial investment in modernist districts, though the extent of that influence remains uncertain.
