Fidelity flags record positive link between Bitcoin and real Treasury yields

A Fidelity Digital Assets study released on October 15, 2026 put the correlation between Bitcoin's market value and inflation-adjusted 10-year Treasury yields above 0.6, the highest positive level on record. That marks a shift from a historically weak or negative link and is attributed to fiscal concerns, including U.S. federal debt above $40 trillion. Both Bitcoin and 10-year Treasury rates increased in the two months preceding the report.
Fidelity Digital Assets released the findings on October 15, 2026. The metric compared Bitcoin’s total market value with the inflation-adjusted yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries, not bond prices. The reading exceeded 0.6, a record positive level, after earlier periods when the relationship was weak or negative.
Fidelity tied the change to U.S. fiscal strains, noting federal debt above $40 trillion and interest costs now the second-largest budget item, ahead of Medicare. In the prior two months, Bitcoin gained almost 30% while 10-year Treasury rates rose over 10%. Chris Kuiper, Fidelity’s VP of research, discussed the link on October 1, 2026.
If Bitcoin’s link to real Treasury yields remains positive, investors who treat it as a hedge may need to reassess portfolio risk. Pension funds, asset managers, and retail savers could see different outcomes when both assets rise or fall together. The shift may also draw more public attention to how fiscal deficits and debt sustainability influence markets, though the relationship’s durability is uncertain and could change with policy or auction conditions.
