Panthers Bring Back Moton, Etienne, Wharton From Reserve Lists
The Panthers activated right tackle Taylor Moton, running back Trevor Etienne, and defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton from reserve lists. Moton expects to return immediately after recovering from a blood clot in his lung and stopping blood thinners a couple of weeks ago. Carolina had opened the 2026 season without starting tackles Ikem Ekwonu and Moton.
Carolina’s moves restore an experienced right tackle, a rotational defensive lineman, and a young running back. Moton, a former second-round pick, had been a durable starter for years before recent absences. Wharton arrived from Kansas City on a lucrative deal but appeared in only nine games last season because of neck surgery.
Etienne, a Georgia product, had been buried behind Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard. With AJ Dillon sidelined by an ankle issue and Jonathon Brooks on injured reserve, his return gives Carolina another backfield option. Moton’s activation follows his recovery from a lung blood clot and weeks off blood thinners.
The returns could affect Panthers fans, players, and the team’s competitive balance. A healthier offensive line may improve quarterback protection and rushing, potentially making games more entertaining for viewers. Wharton’s presence may ease pressure on younger defenders, while Etienne could add backfield depth. For the broader NFL audience, these roster moves may slightly shift expectations for the upcoming game, though injuries and performance will ultimately determine impact.
