Nathan Fielder Discusses His Secret Film and a Call From Elizabeth Holmes

WIRED spoke with Nathan Fielder about his first feature film, You Can See Everything, which had a secret premiere at Telluride. Fielder also described a recent phone call from Elizabeth Holmes, who told him she trusted him. The interview touches on his work with truth, deception, and the Theranos story.
WIRED’s cover interview followed an unusual courtship: Fielder’s representative first floated a fall magazine feature, but details required an NDA. Only a few dozen people viewed his debut feature before it appeared unannounced at Telluride in early September. Co-directed with Lance Oppenheim, the film opens with a 34-day psychological interplay involving Fielder, Elizabeth Holmes, and Billy Evans before Holmes’s imprisonment.
Fielder’s earlier work includes Dumb Starbucks, a fabricated bar for a difficult conversation, and pilot training that culminated in flying a 737 with passengers. In the interview, he also recounted a recent call from Holmes, who expressed trust in him.
The film’s fusion of celebrity, deception, and tech scandal may draw new attention to Theranos’s cultural afterlife and to how founders’ narratives are constructed. Audiences, media, and startup communities could debate where entertainment ends and accountability begins. Fielder’s involvement may also shape public perceptions of Holmes and of documentary-style storytelling, potentially influencing future projects that blend comedy, journalism, and venture-capital mythology.
