Christiane Amanpour Sets Departure From CNN for 2027

Christiane Amanpour has announced she will leave CNN in June 2027 after more than four decades with the network. Her CNN International interview program will end in May 2027, and her PBS series Amanpour & Co. will conclude in December. CNN chairman Mark Thompson said in a memo that he accepted her decision as the right timing for her.
Amanpour joined CNN in 1983 at its Atlanta base, first handling international assignments before becoming a New York-based reporter and later an international correspondent. Her reporting ranged from the 2004 South Asia tsunami to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and she has earned 16 Emmys, four Peabody Awards, and a place in the Cable Hall of Fame.
She has served as chief international anchor and hosted the CNN International interview show Amanpour, which is scheduled to finish in May 2027; she will keep reporting for CNN through June. Her PBS program Amanpour & Co. ends in December. In 2021 she disclosed ovarian cancer treatment, and in 2025 said the illness had returned but was well controlled.
Amanpour's departure could reshape how some international audiences encounter in-depth interviews and foreign reporting, especially viewers who have followed her work for decades. CNN and PBS may adjust their global affairs programming, while emerging journalists could see fewer high-profile models for long-form international correspondence. Her exit may also prompt discussions about career longevity, health, and visibility for women in broadcast news, though concrete effects will depend on replacement programming and audience habits.
