Jio Platforms Attracts $25 Billion in Anchor Bids for $3.2 Billion IPO

Jio Platforms received roughly $25 billion in anchor investor bids for its $3.2 billion initial public offering, according to Reuters. The demand was nearly 30 times the reserved anchor portion, with participants including GIC, BlackRock, Fidelity, and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Public subscriptions are set to begin on October 21, and the IPO could value Jio at about $108.3 billion while helping repay telecom borrowings.
Jio Platforms drew anchor interest around $25 billion for an IPO aiming to raise up to $3.2 billion. The reserved anchor portion was oversubscribed nearly 30 times, with GIC, BlackRock, Fidelity and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority among reported participants. Institutional bidding began Monday; public subscriptions are scheduled for October 21–23, with listing expected October 28.
The offering could value Jio at about $108.3 billion. Up to Rs. 27,500 crore of proceeds may repay or prepay Reliance Jio Infocomm borrowings. Jio runs Reliance Industries’ telecom and digital operations under Akash Ambani, serving over 500 million subscribers and competing with Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. It is Reliance’s first major public issue since Reliance Petroleum’s 2006 listing.
The IPO may draw attention from Indian retail investors and global funds, potentially influencing how households and institutions allocate savings toward large technology and telecom listings. If proceeds reduce borrowings, Jio could have more flexibility to invest in networks, cloud and AI, which may affect subscribers, businesses and competitors. Strong demand could also shape sentiment around future Indian IPOs, though anchor interest alone cannot predict listing performance or long-term returns.
