SpaceX Results Lift Tech Futures Before Tesla and Meta Earnings

U.S. stock futures advanced on Oct. 21, with Nasdaq contracts leading, after SpaceX posted sharply higher quarterly revenue and profit and Super Micro lifted its sales forecast. Netflix slipped in premarket trading after a weaker advertising outlook, and crude prices rose as tensions involving Iran persisted. Traders were looking ahead to results from Tesla and Meta.
Before trading began, Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.67%, S&P 500 futures added 0.27%, and Dow futures rose 64 points. Nvidia, Intel and AMD advanced after the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index had fallen for eight sessions. SpaceX posted $14.6 billion in quarterly sales, a 161% increase, and $4.4 billion in profit versus a year-earlier loss.
Super Micro raised its expected quarterly sales to $18.5–$19.5 billion from $14.5–$15.5 billion, pointing to stronger AI-platform demand, and forecast better gross margins. Netflix lowered its projected annual advertising sales to about $2.7 billion from roughly $3 billion, and its shares fell more than 6% before the bell. Oil gained as Iran-related tensions continued.
The moves may affect households with retirement or brokerage accounts, since tech-heavy indexes can influence portfolio values. Strong AI-related demand could shape hiring and investment in chip and server industries, while Netflix’s ad revision may pressure streaming advertisers and content budgets. Higher oil prices tied to Iran tensions could raise transport and energy costs for consumers and businesses. Investors may remain sensitive to Tesla and Meta results, which could set the tone for broader technology valuations.
