ICER analysis finds launch prices rising faster than assessed value
A new ICER report found that the median list price of newly launched drugs rose 24% from 2022 to 2025. Net prices for those products increased by an even larger margin. The report indicates that launch prices are climbing more quickly than the treatments' assessed value.
An ICER review examined the initial prices of medicines introduced in recent years and compared them with earlier launches. It found that the midpoint of list prices for new products was 24% higher in 2025 than in 2022. The same analysis showed net prices rising by a larger amount over that period.
The report also compared these launch prices with ICER’s assessments of treatment value. Its conclusion was that the prices of newly introduced therapies have been increasing faster than the value assigned to them in those assessments.
If launch prices keep outpacing assessed value, patients and payers—such as insurers, employers, and public programs—could face tougher choices about coverage and affordability. Higher net prices may influence premiums, cost sharing, or formulary decisions, though the real effect would depend on negotiation, rebates, and clinical need.
