Houston Performing Arts Highlights for October 19–25, 2026
Houston’s stages have a busy week from October 19 to 25, 2026, with openings and limited-run performances across theater, opera, dance, and classical music. Highlights include a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical at the University of Houston, a George Bernard Shaw farce from Classical Theatre Company, a Spanish-language drama at MATCH, and a free Houston Symphony Halloween concert in The Woodlands. The roundup also notes a Houston Grand Opera staging and a dance event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The week’s slate spans university, company, and venue stages. University of Houston students present Carousel at Moores Opera House Thursday through Sunday, with tickets at $25. Classical Theatre Company opens Shaw’s Arms and the Man at The DeLuxe Theater on Thursday, while Gente de Teatro’s Spanish-language El Test begins at MATCH the same night.
Free options include Houston Symphony’s Halloween-themed Hocus Pocus Pops in The Woodlands on Friday and Houston Contemporary Dance with Vitacca Ballet at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Other entries include Houston Grand Opera’s American-opera staging and a Breast Cancer Awareness Month dance program.
The week’s mix could broaden access to live performance by pairing ticketed productions with free concerts and dance, potentially drawing families, students, and first-time attendees. Spanish-language and historical works may help Houston’s diverse audiences see their experiences reflected onstage, while the breast-cancer-awareness program may foster reflection and solidarity. Local companies and university students could gain visibility and audience relationships that extend beyond this week.
