Night City Returns: Edgerunners 2 Hits Netflix as Cyberpunk 2077 Prepares Free Update
The second Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series is now available on Netflix with ten episodes. CD PROJEKT RED also announced a free Cyberpunk 2077 update, version 2.5, for October 22 that adds content tied to the new show. More details are expected during an October 21 REDstreams presentation.
The new Netflix series presents a separate narrative rather than continuing the first anime’s story. Its ensemble includes an experienced mercenary, a movie-loving youth, a body-modification-obsessed troublemaker, and a netrunner connected to Snake Nation. Recurring creative personnel include director Kai Ikarashi, character designer Kanno Ichigo, and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor in showrunning, writing, and producing roles.
CD PROJEKT RED’s free 2.5 patch arrives October 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release planned soon after. It will add show-inspired items and gameplay elements. A REDstreams event on October 21 is expected to preview the contents and publish patch notes.
The simultaneous anime launch and free game update could draw existing Cyberpunk fans back to Netflix and Cyberpunk 2077, while possibly attracting newcomers through the crossover. Subscribers and players on supported consoles may see renewed online discussion around Night City, and the October REDstreams may shape expectations before release.
